Most of the American map is open country for sweepstakes casinos. Four borders are sealed. Here is the frontier as it stands in July 2026, crossing by crossing.
The open country
In the large majority of states, sweeps operators trade lawfully under the two-currency treaty explained in our traveler’s guide: no redeemable currency is ever sold, and a free entry lane always exists, so the product falls under promotional-sweepstakes law rather than gambling statute. States hold the power to seal their side of the border, and four have used it.

The California closure, up close
Until this year California was the busiest port of entry in the whole territory. AB 831 ended that in January 2026: operators withdrew, resident accounts were wound down, and every package on Casino Border is void for Californians. Frontiers move – that is the first lesson of this territory – so this report carries a July 2026 stamp and is re-walked on every inspection cycle.
How the seals are enforced
Geolocation at registration and again at the exit desk. A VPN does not move your house: identity verification at redemption reveals your true state, the mismatch is flagged, and the balance is forfeited. No operator on our map pays out across a sealed border, and we have never found a safe detour worth writing about.
Age limits and local conditions
Everywhere in the open country, the floor is 18+ with 21+ where a state or an operator insists. Individual promotions sometimes exclude extra territories, so the final authority is always the offer page you claim from – never a review site, this one included. Unsure about your own crossing?
